Protests against the regime have led to a worldwide mobilization against racism and for human rights. The BLACKLIVESMATTER discourse has set social networks on fire and seems to have brought people together for activism and social change. Now, the whole world has joined the cause to support the <strong>pro-lives matter movement<\/strong>. The fashion industry <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/highxtar.com\/fashion-joins-black-lives-matter-protests\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">seemed to have reacted<\/a><\/strong>. Their ambiguity grew as did community discontent.<\/p>\n<p>Immediately, the comments against the firms set the networks on fire. The protesters attacked the brands to make <strong>real contributions<\/strong> to the cause. A week later, they took a stand and began their donations.<\/p>\n<h2>Performative Activism<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s curious if we compare this to the reaction to the <strong>Notre-Dame de Paris fire.<\/strong> In just one day, the donations were clarified by the major luxury industry CEOs. <strong>Fran\u00e7ois-Henri Pinault<\/strong>, CEO of Kering, promised to donate 100 million euros for the reconstruction. <strong>Bernard Arnault<\/strong>, CEO of LVMH, donated 200 million. The amount of donations was so high that we all wondered if too much money had not been contributed.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, along with the looting, major stores around the world have appeared with <strong>claims messages<\/strong> on their facades and windows.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-130407\" src=\"https:\/\/highxtar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/highxtar-blm3.jpeg\" alt=\"activismo\" width=\"1023\" height=\"744\" srcset=\"https:\/\/highxtar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/highxtar-blm3.jpeg 1023w, https:\/\/highxtar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/highxtar-blm3-300x218.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/highxtar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/highxtar-blm3-768x559.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/highxtar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/highxtar-blm3-973x708.jpeg 973w, https:\/\/highxtar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/highxtar-blm3-508x369.jpeg 508w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1023px) 100vw, 1023px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For Antoine Gregory, a fashion consultant who has worked with brands such as Telfar and Pyer Moss, the publications that the brands made were clearly in response to the lobbying of Black followers. <strong>\u201cWhat I\u2019ve noticed in this industry is that until Black consumers make a loud enough effort to be heard, brands will absolutely remain silent&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For her part, Pam Boy reasons that <strong>\u201cfashion houses were slow to donate to the Black Lives Matter Movement because a social revolt isn\u2019t glamorous enough&#8221;.<\/strong> He adds that <strong>&#8220;it stains the pristine image that fashion and luxury houses thrive on. It\u2019s a lot less sexy to say that Black Lives Matter than to contribute to saving a building that\u2019s going to stand the test of time&#8221;, <\/strong>regarding donations to Notre Dame Cathedral.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, the mobilizations go beyond a <strong>publication on Instagram<\/strong>. As Antoine Gregory rightly points out, <strong>&#8220;we don&#8217;t need more performative activism, we need action&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BLACKLIVESMATTER discourse has set the networks on fire and seems to have brought the population together for activism and social change.
