Seagate recently announced that it will use heat-assisted magnetic recording technology (HAMR) for its upcoming hard drives. This new technology greatly reduces file size but will have a higher price tag.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With this new HAMR technology<\/strong>, the hard disk manufacturer intends to release a 24 TB storage unit in 2021. The price of the hard disk will be significantly higher<\/strong> due to the laser heating diode required.<\/p>\n

Seagate CEO Dave Mosley clarifies his goal: “What we believe is that HAMR will be able to store many files so that they are permanently recorded<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
