Princess Diana has become one of the world’s greatest style icons and many admirers would like to collect items from her closet. Now it is possible to get her “Black Sheep” sweater, which was considered lost for a long time.<\/h2>\n\n\n

Princess Diana wore the iconic garment to one of Prince Charles’ polo matches in 1981. The sweater was discontinued in 1994, manufactured by Warm & Wonderful, and became part of the permanent collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Original designers Joanna Osborne and Sally Muir partnered with Rowing Blazers in 2020 to bring out a reissue as part of the brand’s Diana-inspired collection. In addition, actress Emma Corin wore a replica of the garment in The Crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To date, Diana’s exact sweater was thought to be lost, but Osborne and Muir have managed to track it down. “Last March, while rummaging through the attic for an old pattern, we discovered a small box,” they recounted in a statement. “Inside, hidden next to a cotton quilt, was Diana’s original red sheep sweater from 1981. Now, nearly four decades later, this one-of-a-kind sheep sweater is ready to find its way into the hands of one lucky collector.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The piece will be auctioned at Sotheby’s<\/a> upcoming Fashion Icons in September, but online bidding will take place from August 31 to September 13. The garment is expected to sell for between $50,000 and $80,000 USD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
