New year, new silhouette. But not that new. The silhouette that conquered the street styles of the first decade of the 2000s is back, revamped for 2024. The Mostro, whose name is Italian, created, at the time of its launch, an aesthetic that surpassed that of traditional trainers in a decade when it was essential to explore a new concept of modernity, detached from the most recognisable elements of the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 90s were over, the anxieties of the Millennium Bug (which is also the origin of the term Y2K) had passed and everyone felt the arrival of the new era: the year of the Puma Mostro was also the year of the Matrix, of Existenz, of the new Star Wars trilogy? We are living in that era of post-modernism and especially post-sneaker in which the very idea of traditional laces seems outdated and the silhouette must simply be new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it’s almost ironic that this futuristic look comes from the past, suitably updated to the needs and materials of the moment, so they return on 13 January, with a mesh upper, PUMA Formstrip overlay in metallic silver, as well as an elasticated strap fastening and lycra lining. The silhouette retains its signature spiked sole and versatile strap closure. Re-opening the door to healthy nostalgia and joining the retro-future trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seen on Skepta’s Instagram profile and on A$AP Rocky at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Mostro proved this past season that it’s Puma’s new must-have. The silhouette, which appeared in a mid-top version in a Black Panther-inspired capsule in 2018, even took to the catwalk: Ottolinger brought back the boot-shaped silhouette, for example, while other models from the brand, have established themselves as archives within the fashion universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
