Because of their oil-reducing properties, astringents are widely used on the face, as they work to dry up excess sebum and tighten the tissues, leaving a firmer feeling and more refined pores. They usually contain glycolic and salicylic acid, as well as alcohol: \u2018Among their main benefits is their ability to also reduce shine by removing excess oil, leaving a matte finish. Astringents also leave a refreshing and toning sensation on the skin, although it is not recommended to use them too much because of their drying power, especially if you have sensitive skin or a very dry complexion: \u2018Choosing the right astringent for your skin type is essential, those with a high alcohol content can be too strong for most skins, so it’s better to choose softer options with witch hazel, for example\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for how to use them, Nezeni Cosmetics recommends applying them after cleansing the face to remove any extra residue and oil: \u2018This helps to clear pores and prepare the skin for the next steps. The first thing to do is to moisten a cotton pad with the product and gently wipe it all over the face, avoiding the delicate area around the eyes without rinsing. Then let it dry so that the ingredients can work effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are a first-time user or have a normal\/mixed complexion, start by using it once a day or every other day to see how your complexion reacts: \u2018For very oily skin, using an astringent may be appropriate both morning and evening after cleansing.
