With the Governors Awards red carpet as a prelude, the nominations for the Golden Globes 2025 give us a signal that awards season is in full swing. In the early hours of January 5-6, the names of those chosen by the 334 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will be revealed, whose members vote in a myriad of categories covering both film and television, separating comedy from drama, as is tradition – though not without always generating controversy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the series, titles such as Hacks, Abbott Elementary, The Bear or Only Murders in the Building repeat in the comedy category, while My Furry Reindeer, The Penguin or The Mendez Brothers compete for the award for Best Miniseries. This year, the talk of the big prizes has been dominated by a few titles that have swept every festival and every premiere. The Substance, starring Demi Moore, made its mark at Cannes with its body horror approach, while Emilia P\u00e9rez, Jacques Audiard’s provocative queer narcomusical, took the Palme d’Or at the French festival, also highlighting its cast, with Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n as the big revelation. In Venice, Pedro Almod\u00f3var’s The Next Room won the Golden Lion, and Nicole Kidman won Best Actress at the Italian event for her role in Babygirl, an erotic thriller that has been one of the most daring proposals of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the forecasts come true, titles such as Wicked and Gladiator 2, which have been overwhelmingly successful, are likely to win some awards on the golden night. The same goes for the second part of Dune and Conclave. Among the actors, the favourites are Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, Adrien Brody, Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Tilda Swinton, Demi Moore, Cynthia Erivo, Mikey Madison and Lily-Rose Depp, who are all in the acting categories.
