Performance art has become one of the most recognized forms of creative expression of the 21st century. A new Thames & Hudson book<\/em>, Performance Now<\/strong><\/em>, argues that this kind of art is “an increasingly essential vehicle for communicating ideas around the world in the new millennium.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Compiled by RoseLee Goldberg (@roseleegoldberg<\/a>)<\/strong>, one of the best-known curators of contemporary art, the book offers a comprehensive study of the most innovative performance artists who live and work today. Among them: Marina Abramovi\u0107,<\/em> Cuban artist Tania Bruguera<\/em> or film directors Matthew Barney<\/em> and Omer Fast<\/em>.<\/p>\n

With the proliferation of film and social media, this form of expression is no longer just a live art form, but something that can be transmitted across continental borders. Goldberg’s book is dedicated to a number of Middle Eastern artists, including Yael Bartana, Sigalit Landau<\/em> and Lida Abdul<\/em>, whose work uses this way \u00a0of expression to create an imaginative space that faces the traumas of separation and war.<\/p>\n
