This month, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/highxtar.com\/en\/sothebys-to-auction-the-first-work-of-art-created-by-a-robot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sotheby\u2019s<\/a> <\/strong>will auction <em>\u201cAmerica\u201d<\/em>, the famous solid gold toilet created by <strong>Maurizio Cattelan<\/strong>, with an estimated value of <strong>$10 million<\/strong>. The piece, made from <strong>101.2 kilograms of gold<\/strong>, stands as a gleaming \u2014 and fully functional \u2014 symbol of what happens when luxury and irony share the same throne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cattelan, a master of satire and absurdity, first presented the work at the <strong>Guggenheim Museum in New York<\/strong> in 2016, where visitors were literally invited to <em>use<\/em> the art. In 2019, one of the two versions of <em>\u201cAmerica\u201d<\/em> was stolen from <strong>Blenheim Palace<\/strong> in England. Earlier this year, authorities arrested and convicted two men involved in the theft, though the artwork remains missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The version going to auction belongs to an <strong>anonymous collector<\/strong> and will be on view at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/whitney.org\/about\/breuer-building\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sotheby\u2019s Breuer Building<\/a><\/strong> in New York from <strong>8 November<\/strong> \u2014 strictly for looking, not using. The bidding opens on <strong>18 November<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cattelan, also known for his duct-taped banana (<em>\u201cComedian\u201d<\/em>) \u2014 sold to <strong>Justin Sun<\/strong> for <strong>$6.2 million<\/strong> and promptly eaten by him \u2014 proves once again that humour is still worth its weight in gold.
