Thames & Hudson<\/strong> has just released Jean Paul Gaultier Catwalk<\/em>, the first book to compile all of the French designer\u2019s womenswear collections. The publication offers unprecedented access to the Maison\u2019s archives and has been developed in collaboration with Gaultier himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From his debut \u201cBiker of the Opera\u201d<\/em> in 1976 to his final runway show in 2020, the volume spans over forty years of creative evolution. Written by Laird Borrelli-Persson<\/strong>, the book defines Gaultier as \u201cthe quintessential postmodernist, driven by the clash of opposites, gender fluidity and a melting-pot culture in terms of size, ethnicity, sexual orientation and nationality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout his career, Gaultier championed diversity and inclusion, bringing together models of different ages, body types and backgrounds. Icons such as Madonna<\/strong> and Bj\u00f6rk<\/a><\/strong> walked his runways, where the designer fused humour, provocation and cultural references.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The book includes a history of the Maison, a biographical profile of the designer and a chronological review of his collections. The images capture Gaultier\u2019s visual universe \u2014 from set designs and garments to details, beauty looks and models including Linda Evangelista<\/strong>, Kate Moss<\/strong>, Gigi<\/strong> and Bella Hadid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This publication concludes with a comprehensive reference section that completes the overview of his work.
