With the support of\u00a0Radio Relativa<\/strong><\/a><\/strong>, the Dutch trio\u00a0Devon Rexi<\/strong>\u00a0and the solo project\u00a0Nicolini<\/strong> will present in the capital two live sets that offer a close-up understanding of how contemporary experimentation dialogues with rhythm-based musical traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Devon Rexi<\/strong>, made up of Nushin Naini<\/strong>, Goya van der Heyden<\/strong> and Nic Mauskovic<\/strong>, arrive in Madrid after consolidating a distinctive language across their two releases on South Of North<\/strong>: the EP Tambal<\/em> (2022) and the mini-album Biya Ba Man<\/em> (2024). Both works reveal an interest in weaving together diverse influences within compositions built around groove. Their tracks are often constructed from repetitive rhythmic patterns and bass lines that act as an anchor, over which textures, processed layers and percussive accents are added, resulting in a compact, recognisable sound in constant motion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On stage, the trio tend to deliver a live performance that emphasises the physical dimension of their music. Their pieces expand into longer, more open versions than those recorded in the studio, highlighting the real-time interaction between instruments, effects and electronics. This turns each performance into a distinct reading of their own catalogue, where controlled improvisation allows nuances to surface that do not always appear on record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The line-up is completed by Nicolini<\/strong>, the alias of Nic Mauskovic<\/strong>, who develops in parallel a personal project also released by South Of North. His output blends electronics, dub and structures reminiscent of dance music, yet always from a perspective of sonic research. Nicolini\u2019s live sets tend to merge synthesised sequences with processed rhythms and modulated melodic lines, creating an atmosphere where club-oriented elements coexist with more abstract passages. Radio Relativa\u2019s proposal for this night at Gruta 77 works as a meeting point between two complementary visions of current rhythmic experimentation. On one side, Devon Rexi offer a collective, organic approach; on the other, Nicolini contributes a perspective more focused on individual production and sound design. Both projects represent a European scene that navigates between dub tradition, the drive of funk and the openness of contemporary electronics, finding in live performance an ideal space to express its complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
