A judge has dismissed the lawsuit against the singer over her classic \u2018<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/intl-es\/track\/0bYg9bo50gSsH3LtXe2SQn?si=81bb3ac3d9314269\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">All I Want For Christmas Is You<\/a><\/strong>\u2019 and ordered the claimants to pay more than $92,000 in sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to court documents cited by <em>Complex<\/em>, the court concluded that the claim brought by Andy Stone and Troy Powers had no merit. They accused Carey of copying their song of the same name, which they say they recorded in 1989. The ruling states that there was no legal basis and seeks to curb this kind of baseless litigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carey will receive exactly <strong>$92,303.20<\/strong>. In addition, the judge ordered that nearly $20,000 be paid to other people connected to the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stone and Powers had already filed a similar lawsuit in 2022, but withdrew it five months later. In 2023, they tried again. They then claimed that their song received strong airplay during Christmas 1993, a year before Carey released her track in 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision comes just ahead of the festive season, as Carey\u2019s carol once again dominates streaming platforms and the charts. <em>Billboard<\/em> reports that <strong>the song has now reached its 21st week at number one on the Hot 100<\/strong>, extending its own record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, the track has spent 78 weeks on the chart. With that figure, it overtakes Dua Lipa\u2019s \u2018Levitating\u2019 as the longest-charting song by a female artist.
