Apple could be preparing to break one of its best-known unwritten rules<\/strong>: no touchscreens on MacBooks. According to a recent report by Mark Gurman for Bloomberg, the company is working on a MacBook Pro with touch technology, scheduled for release in late 2026. If confirmed, this would be an interesting shift in the brand’s product philosophy, which for years has championed a clear separation between the touchscreen iPad and the keyboard- and trackpad-controlled Mac.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The models in development would be 14- and 16-inch versions<\/strong> that would retain their classic essence, including a physical keyboard and trackpad. However, they would incorporate a user interface described as \u2018dynamic,\u2019 capable of adapting depending on whether the user interacts with the cursor or directly with their fingers. For example, when touching an item on the screen, a context menu could be displayed around the finger to facilitate selection, making the touch experience more intuitive without sacrificing the traditional precision of the macOS environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Significant changes are also expected in terms of hardware<\/strong>. The new devices will feature OLED panels, which will significantly improve contrast and image quality. In addition, there is mention of a Mac-adapted version of the well-known \u2018Dynamic Island\u2019, accompanied by a smaller camera cut-out with a perforated design. Everything points to a major visual and functional overhaul, designed to modernise the line without altering its core identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, sources emphasise that Apple does not intend to turn this MacBook Pro into a replacement for the iPad<\/strong>. The idea would not be to merge categories, but to expand the ways of interacting within the Mac ecosystem. In other words, it would remain a full-fledged professional laptop, but with a new layer of versatility that could open the door to more flexible uses. If it materialises in 2026, it would be one of Apple’s most striking moves in the laptop arena in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
