5 trends that will shape 2024

For fashion addicts, the new year brings with it the same old question: What can I add to my wardrobe of interest that isn’t deja vu from any previous year? If you’re ready, know that we have a number of trends that are going to dominate our fashion world this year 2024. Here they go:

PREPPY STYLE

Preppy style is a combination of sport and formality that has been known since the 1950s when it was first brought into fashion by pre-college students in the United States. Once the golden age of style with the likes of Kanye sporting polo shirts, cardigans, blazers and prints such as checks and stripes, today the standard bearers of the aesthetic are Miuccia Prada with her revered Miu Miu. The preppy style has evolved to adapt to the new times, taking as a style reference the proposals of brands such as Casablanca, Aimé Leon Dore, Rhude, Miu Miu or AMI Paris. This year, it is the prevailing aesthetic, don’t miss a single garment.

LOGO LESS FASHION

If 2023 was the year when Quiet Luxury was at its peak, this new year the general tone for brands will be back towards the era of the no-logo, just as it was 5 years ago. Discreet fashion will be a growing trend in the luxury industry, focusing primarily on craftsmanship rather than the ostentation of wealth. This not only represents a new understanding of luxury for new consumers, but will serve to greatly reduce the proliferation of counterfeits in the market. New consumers will stop looking for a logo display and focus instead on the style and cut of the garment, placing value on other features such as design and quality.

NUEVAS DIRECCIONES

The year 2024 promises to witness shocking changes in the fashion scene, with the expected debuts of new creative directors at renowned houses, marking a new era in the industry. Among the notable names is Chemena Kamali, who will embark on her first foray into design as creative director of Chloé. Her debut is scheduled for January 2024, with the launch of a pre-fall collection, followed by a runway show at Paris Fashion Week, presenting the Autumn/Winter 2024 collection just a month later.

The addition of Seán McGirr as creative director of Alexander McQueen will also mark a before and after in the industry. The brand’s CEO, Gianfilippo Testa, expressed his enthusiasm in welcoming McGirr as McQueen’s new creative head.

Another anticipated debut is that of Tamburini at TOD’S, who will present his first women’s Autumn/Winter 2024 collection at Milan Fashion Week in February. Meanwhile, Rochas’ reboot is already underway, with plans to present an Autumn/Winter 2024 collection at Paris Fashion Week in the same month, marking a new chapter for the luxury house under Alessandro Vigilante direction.

While some brands have revealed their new creative leaders in advance, uncertainty persists for others, as in the cases of Lanvin’s Bruno Sialelli and Givenchy’s Matthew M. Williams, who recently stepped down from their roles as creative directors. This vacuum leaves the industry in suspense, awaiting announcements that will surely impact the direction of these iconic fashion houses.

THE MODERN EVOLUTION OF THE EXECUTIVE LOOK

Power dressing has always been a trend that has invaded the wardrobes of mortals, but expect to see a lot more of this trend in 2024 with modifications. So, get your inner executive and choose an office look, pretending your life is in order.

If there is one brand that has set a precedent in the new game of the executive look, it is BOSS, but we cannot ignore the efforts of Givenchy, Coperni, or PRADA in this aesthetic, which by the way, also comes with its shorts variant in the proposals of some brands.

A GARDEN FULL OF ROSES

If there’s one thing we’ve seen on the catwalks of Primera-Summer 2024, it’s rose gardens in bloom. Obviously this is not an innovative motif considering that for as long as fashion has been fashion, roses have been part of women’s clothing, but in 2024 they are coming on strong… and also for men. Whether as an accessory, appliqués on dresses or as a complete garment, roses are serving brands as key elements in their proposals. Here we have the example of Palomo Spain, Simone Rocha, Undercover, Willi Chavarria, Marni, etc.
