7 tips for regaining sexuality after a break-up

2023 was the year of celebrity break-ups, and 2024 seems to be following in their footsteps. We know that break-ups are hard and, according to Google Trends, people are turning to the internet to find out how to cope. After a breakup, a range of emotions can follow, including feelings of inadequacy and disconnection from one’s sexuality. That’s why Ana Lombardía, We-Vibe‘s sexual health and wellness expert, shares some tips on how to get over a break-up and regain your sensuality.

Accept your feelings

Give yourself time and space to grieve. Whether through journaling, going to therapy, having talks with friends, or setting aside time to grieve. Allow yourself to acknowledge and process your emotions.

Don’t rush

Adopt the concept of recovering gradually. Create new routines in your daily life, allow yourself to be unwell and also “force” yourself to get out of the house and have some fun. The idea is that there will be more and more positive or neutral moments, and that the painful moments will become less intense and less frequent. Yoga and nature are always great allies.

Set boundaries

Set clear boundaries with your ex-partner to safeguard your emotional health. Limiting contact and unfollowing on social media can be crucial steps in the healing process and moving on.

Self-reflection

Take time to reflect on the break-up, assessing how it aligns with your personal values and goals. Seek support from trusted people to navigate feelings of guilt and loss, prioritising your own growth and well-being. Grieving is a natural and non-pathological process, but if you feel it is dragging on or you are finding it too difficult to get back into a routine, you can seek counselling.
