If you’ve recently been tagged in an Instagram post with the message “Congratulations, you’ve won an iPhone 13”, we have to warn you, in case you didn’t already know, that you’re being scammed.
The last few weeks on Instagram have been an odyssey in terms of the increase in mentions and contests with the aim of winning an iPhone 13. And not only that, most of the time, without participating, they send you a message directly telling you that you have been the winner so that you enter their website and thus redirect you to a fraudulent page and deceive you.
This process is a phishing campaign, as the Internet Security Office (OSI) warns. In other words, they try to trick you by making you go through an apparently serious process and finally, under the pretext of making a small payment, they end up obtaining your details. The scam is carried out through various means, from a website or an email.
In the sweepstakes, an image of an iPhone 13 appears along with a disclaimer at the end to unsubscribe from the email. You then have to take the survey in which you are asked a series of simple questions with the idea of ‘Answer and win a new iPhone 13’ and under the assumption that you have been ‘chosen to participate in their loyalty programme for free’.
At the end of the process you have to choose a box. At first it gives you an error, but they offer you a new attempt and the message that you have been the winner appears. You are then asked to pay 5.99 euros to access the loyalty service through which you will receive the gift. Please note that you will not receive the iPhone 13.
