Oversize suits, a mood that is still latent for SS22

A week ago we told you that Gen-Z had cancelled skinny jeans and now we’re here to tell you that oversize suits are trending.

It’s only been a week since we told you that Gen-Z had cancelled skinny jeans and now we’re here again to stress that skinny is out of fashion: you’re already including an oversized suit in your wardrobe.

“Size does matter” is an inescapable statement when it comes to suits. Oversize proportions have become particularly prominent in recent seasons, as seen in the fashion collections recently presented at Fashion Weeks.

From Balenciaga to Hermès, blazers are becoming wider and trousers more fluid. Even Hedi Slimane, the designer who made everyone obsessed with slim-fit suits in the 2000s, included loose-fitting garments for his latest CELINE collections.

And it’s not just on the catwalk, the red carpets have also shown that this trend is very present. Robert Pattinson on the Batman tour wore a grey XXL suit, very similar to the one worn by Justin Bieber at the 64th Grammys 2022 combined with a fuchsia hat and Balenciaga Crocs.

At the after-party, Kid Cudi opted for a brown suit with white trainers, while Donald Glover wore a pastel yellow two-piece with a short-sleeved blazer and no bottom. A choice that actor Timothée Chalamet has been making for some time now.
