Ib Kamara, who has always worked hand-in-hand with Virgil overseeing Off-White™’s ready-to-wear and accessories production, has just presented his proposal for FW23 as the brand’s art and image director.
More than a year after the unexpected death of its founder, Virgil Abloh, the Off-White brand is ready for a new chapter with Ib Kamara. Set against a barren backdrop of red sand with a reflective sphere mimicking a planet that immediately transports us to Kubrick’s space odyssey, Ib Kamara, the label’s creative director at the helm, presents his latest post-apocalyptic offering for the FW23 season.
“Driving existing codes in new directions,” are the words shared days before the show that hinted that the creative director would continue the saga of Spaceship Earth: An ‘Imaginary Experience’. Deconstructed suits, protective jackets, harnesses, hollow metal rivets, gears used as accessories… this is his take on the growing debate about Artificial Intelligence, with the resurrection of the metallurgical era.
One of the late designer’s closest friends could not miss this event. She was supermodel Naomi Campbell, who wore the “Lunar Delivery” collection like no one else. Ib Kamara has managed to elevate luxury streetwear with this delivery. Black and studs were the clear protagonists, but there was also room for orange, blue, white, lunar print and inlays and zips.
