From John Mayer to Steph Curry to Travis Scott and Serena Williams, Audemars Piguet watches have conquered the most important figures of the moment. Now, the Swiss brand is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Royal Oak watch.
Launched in 1993 in the wake of the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak, the Offshore model made an even bigger impact than the Royal Oak, which had already created a stir in 1972. The Royal Oak Offshore’s oversized proportions, large rubber gasket and virile aesthetic earned it the nickname “The Beast” at the time of its launch.
Created by designer Emmanuel Gueit, the Royal Oak Offshore was inspired by the creative explosion of the 1980s and ultra-powerful yacht racing. Snubbed by many, but embraced by the younger generation of adventure-seekers and extreme sports enthusiasts, the model became a collection in its own right, imposing its bold aesthetic codes.
At the turn of the millennium, it became a canvas for the Manufacture’s avant-garde design and technical innovations, as well as a major platform for various collaborations with numerous celebrities from the worlds of entertainment, sport and music, anchoring it in global culture.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the collection, the brand is launching a variety of new references. Among these novelties is a new black ceramic chronograph inspired by the “End of Days” Limited Edition launched in 1999 in collaboration with Arnold Schwarzenegger, which started the trend of limited series with celebrities from all walks of life.
