An Apple patent has revealed that the case for future AirPods will include an interactive touchscreen.
The case design for the future AirPods Pro was described in a patent filed in September 2021 called “Graphical User Interface Devices, Methods, and Interactions with a Headphone Case.” The new case will include an interactive display with iPod Touch-like operation, with the ability to switch or scroll audio and adjust volume.
“The usability of a headphone case can be enhanced, and user control over a user’s wireless headphones can be enhanced, by configuring a headphone case with an interactive user interface to enable user control of operations associated with the wireless headphones,” the patent said.
It is possible that the new generation of AirPods will also include Siri functionality to interact with apps such as maps, messaging, weather or radio.
