How to treat rosacea naturally (and from the inside)

Rosacea is a persistent skin disorder that causes redness, pimples and noticeable blood vessels. Although there is no specific cause, here’s how to treat it naturally and from the inside out.

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterised by redness, inflammation and outbreaks of pimples on the skin, especially on the face. The exact cause of rosacea is not yet known, but several factors are known, including genetics, sun exposure and emotional stress.

Growing interest in the microbiota-skin relationship has led to the discovery that rosacea sufferers lack “friendly” bacteria and have an excess of less “friendly” bacteria. It is important to take care of the gut microbiota. In fact, many rosacea patients have digestive symptoms such as dyspepsia, bloating, flatulence, constipation, diarrhoea and meteorism.

Feed your friendly bacteria: eat greens and vegetables, eat seeds and nuts, cook root vegetables and let them cool to form resistant starch. All these fibres feed our friendly bacteria.

Increase your bacterial population: you can increase your bacteria by regularly taking fermented foods such as water kefir, kombucha, pickles, kimchi, sauerkraut… For the skin in particular, the best known strains are Lactobacillus Rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium lactis, Bifidobacterim longum and Lactobacillus casei, which you can also take as a supplement.

Avoid cosmetic products with substances that can cause aggressive cleansing. Use products that promote a natural balance in your skin’s microbiota. It is also interesting to allow our clean skin to be in contact with air with a good oxygen content as in nature.

Manage your stress healthily: stress is a major trigger for gut and skin dysbiosis. Learning to manage it is a great habit for our microbial health.

Use antibiotics rationally: they can worsen symptoms or in some cases improve them momentarily by reducing the pathogenic microbiota on the skin. It is essential that we use antibiotics with extreme caution and that it is for a medical diagnosis of bacterial infection (not viral).
