Études takes us up to the rooftops of Paris to witness their meta-urban exploration from above. The creative trio of Jérémie Egry, Aurélien Arbet and José Lamali unites in this SS24 collection references to gabber and skater culture with the elegance of tailoring.
It is in the light of the “CRÉPUSCULE” – which gives its name to the Spring Summer 2024 collection – at dusk when the Études being is impregnated with a shot of adrenaline. This one moves to the rhythm of live techno music by The Hacker.
True to its stylistic imprint, Études dances between structure and movement, the seriousness of workwear and the comfort of streetwear. Elegance comes with functional pieces that make tailoring a little less serious. Bombers sometimes transform into overalls, multi-pocket pants combine with oversize jackets and more sophisticated double-button coats. A technical harness contrasts with an upgraded silk tracksuit.
The color palette is also full of contrasts that reflect the pieces of the collection. Charcoal gray tones appear with black and navy tones reminiscent of a deep night. But suddenly, an orange glow bursts onto the runway, just as nuclear white appears. Ivory mixes with khaki in a mottled, almost pixelated print, sprayed on jackets and work pants like graffiti mist.
The notion of risk is carried over into textural effects that suggest the passage of time, with worn jeans and screen-printed jackets graffitied in black as if they bore traces of soot. The “E” in Études becomes a striped motif in the style of a motocross logo. And the collaboration with Julian Farade puts the icing on the cake for a groundbreaking collection. The French artist reflects the world of “la nouvelle vie parisienne”. He does it through motifs of birds, chimneys and butterflies, evoking that special moment of twilight. These motifs adorn several pieces, including a denim jacket, baggy pants and a shirt.
In the latest chapter of its triptych dedicated to Paris, Études takes to the rooftops its particular exploration of Parisian life. After investigating the epicenter and the periphery in its previous collections, the brand continues its exercise of mitigating the seriousness of tailoring and giving street style a sense of relevance to the times.
