For the fifth consecutive year, The Bicester Collection has joined the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards with the aim of awarding the prestigious prize and maintaining its commitment to new talent.
And after an arduous selection process led by the Camera Moda Fashion Trust‘s advisory committee, the winner of this year’s edition was Ahluwalia. The British designer of Indian and Nigerian descent founded her eponymous label in 2018 after graduating in menswear from the University of Westminster in London. Since then, she has gone on to carve out an important niche in the industry and has garnered multiple awards, becoming an avant-garde pioneer committed to finding sustainable solutions in her designs.
If there is one thing Ahluwalia is known for, it is celebrating the beauty and diversity of her cultural heritage through thoughtful garments. Now, as the winner of The Bicester Collection’s Emerging Designer Award, she will receive long-term support to help grow her business with mentoring programmes as well as the opportunity to participate in the upcoming pop-up The Creative Spot, dedicated to emerging talent. In addition, their next proposal will be presented during Milan Fashion Week as part of the Designers for the Planet exhibition at the Fashion Hub of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana.
“Ecological and social awareness is important to me and to everyone at Ahluwalia. It was key to the foundations of the brand and as we develop, we strive to learn more, listen more and ultimately act more. Receiving this award is a great honour and reaffirms that our work has been meaningful and that anything is possible, regardless of your background or the current status quo in the industry,” says Priya Ahluwalia herself.
