Playboy fires Mia Khalifa after her comments about Israel-Palestine

Playboy has removed Mia’s channel and published an open letter.

This controversy was sparked on October 7, when Hamas, a Palestinian military group, launched a major attack on Israel that resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives. The conflict follows decades of strife, with Israel occupying Palestine since 1967. The Israeli response included a counterattack and the threat to cut off basic resources, such as water and electricity, to Palestine.

Mia Khalifa, under these circumstances, used her social media presence to express her support for Palestine. In one of her tweets she wrote: “I just want to make sure there are 4K images of my people tearing down the walls of the open air prison they have been forced out of their homes and into, so that we have good choices for history books to write about how they freed themselves from apartheid.” In another post, he urged Palestinians to “turn on their phones and film horizontally,” expressing his continued support for their struggle.

However, some social media users interpreted these comments as incitement to violence, leading to a response from Khalifa, who clarified, “I just want to make it clear that this statement is in no way inciting the spread of violence, I specifically said freedom fighters because that’s what Palestinian citizens are…they fight for freedom every day.”

Playboy’s reaction was swift, calling Khalifa’s comments “disgusting” and “reprehensible.” The company issued an open letter announcing its decision to end its relationship with the former actress, including the removal of Mia’s Playboy channel on its creator platform. In the letter, Playboy emphasized its commitment to free speech and constructive political debate, but stressed its zero-tolerance policy toward hate speech.
