From 18 October to 30 November, the jewellery house will transform its boutique at 74 Passeig de Gràcia into an exhibition that pays tribute to its historical archive.
Under the title ‘Serpenti, 75 years of infinite tales’ Bulgari delves into its history to recover some of the most emblematic creations of Haute Joaillerie and combine them with a magnificent work of art by Ignasi Monreal, who offers his own interpretation of the Roman house.
The Serpenti motif has evolved over time towards a new concept without forgetting its unique essence, becoming a symbol of determination, strength and transformation. At first, back in 1948, it began to take centre stage in Bulgari‘s creations, the first time a snake was used as a piece of jewellery. In the late 1950s, the motif was updated in a more realistic form, covered in vibrant colours and precious stones, and in its 75-year history it has undergone a myriad of metamorphic processes.
The boutique on Passeig de Gràcia will offer a retrospective journey with countless documents, images and sketches that explain this fascinating story. You will also be able to enjoy and discover the impressive oil painting signed by Ignasi Monreal, based on the myth of Cadmus and Harmonia.
“When Bulgari approached me to create an interpretation of Serpenti and its metamorphoses, I immediately started looking for something that would be innovative and iconic, as these are values that underlie all Bulgari creations. The myth of Cadmus and Harmonia and their transformation into serpents, as described in Ovid’s Metamorphoses, held a great fascination for me, and was therefore perfect to inspire this work in which Harmonia wears the Haute Joaillerie bracelet, becomes the centre of attention and transforms into the necklace. In the background you can see Barcelona, seen from my house in my hometown,” says the artist.
