The Russian manicure, often referred to as a “dry manicure”, is a nail care technique that emphasises cuticle maintenance. That is, it is done with a lathe and leaves the nails completely clean, without cuticles. It is called ‘Russian’ because they were the first ones to work with this technique. In fact, it is a meticulous professional technique that only professional manicurists are able to perform.
Instead of using traditional nail files, the Russian manicure requires a lathe for the filing process and to shape the nails quickly and precisely. In this way, the nails are completely clean, surface irregularities are smoothed out and the result is polished and even nails that can last up to a month. This treatment usually takes between 1.5 to 2 hours to complete.
How is a Russian manicure done?
The fundamental difference to a normal manicure done by professionals lies in the filing phase. The steps would be:
- Preparation of the nails by removing any previous nail polish so that they are completely clean.
- Filing using an electric drill. Using gentle and precise movements, the specialist will shape the nails, eliminating roughness and irregularities.
- The next step is cuticle care, gently removing the cuticles and eliminating excess skin.
- Finally, the nails are polished if you wish to do so, followed by proper moisturising to keep your nails and hands well cared for.
