Beauty Tips you need to know to improve your skincare routine

The beauty experts at Soul Factors reveal 7 tips to keep your skincare routine in check this winter. Tips include changing pillowcases regularly to prevent acne, investing in a lip scrub to remove dead skin, avoiding using the phone before bedtime and more.

Change pillowcases at least every TWO weeks

Believe it or not, changing pillowcases directly affects your skin. Bacteria are easily transferred from the skin to pillows and can cause acne, so it’s important to wash them regularly. Dust mites and allergens also accumulate on the surface, causing irritation.

Experts recommend washing pillowcases weekly or at least every two weeks to remove excess oil, sweat and make-up. If possible, you should also clean the inside of the pillow at least once a year. In addition, silk and satin pillowcases are recommended because they minimise breakouts, hair damage and wrinkles with friction.

Use a chamomile eye mask

Chamomile is great to include in your nighttime routine, as it contains antioxidants that reduce redness and hyperpigmentation. Soak some chamomile infused eye pads in chamomile, pop them in the fridge and use them at night while you relax before bed and watch them slowly take effect.

Nowadays we spend too much time staring at screens, a chamomile-infused eye mask helps relieve eye strain.

Prepara un exfoliante labial hidratante

During the colder months, our lips become chapped and chapped due to the lack of moisture caused by the weather, so including a lip scrub in your routine is essential to prevent this.

Mix a teaspoon of granulated sugar with a drizzle of honey to create a natural, antioxidant-packed scrub. Gently swirl the sugar on your lips to remove dead skin particles.

Prioritise foot care

Foot care is often overlooked, especially in winter. Remember to include foot care in your nightly routine with a foot mask to keep them soft.

If you mash half a banana, add half a teaspoon of honey and mix the two ingredients together, you’ll get a natural moisturising foot mask that you can put on for 15 minutes. Leave it on with a pair of old socks or even plastic wrap for soft feet.

Invest in a hair oil treatment

Hair oils are fast becoming popular in the beauty industry as rosemary oil has become one of the biggest beauty trends on TikTok in the last year.

Using hair oils overnight provides moisture, prevents breakage and can even increase the shine and softness of hair. Coconut oil is also a popular choice as it strengthens hair cuticles and adds shine. You can also make a hair mask to increase protection.

Mix a mashed ripe avocado with two tablespoons of coconut oil and a tablespoon of honey to treat your hair overnight. Apply the mixture to dry hair, distribute evenly, cover with a shower cap or washcloth and rinse in the morning. If you don’t feel like sleeping with it, you can leave it on for just half an hour.

Use a non-comedogenic moisturiser

In winter, it’s essential to maintain a skincare routine and what better way to do so than to use a non-comedogenic moisturiser, specifically formulated to prevent clogged pores.

Most non-comedogenic moisturisers include skin-healthy ingredients such as ceramides, hyaluronic acid and glycerin, which are non-greasy and prevent dry, flaky skin. Everyone likes smooth, hydrated skin, so enhance your nighttime routine with a light, balanced moisturiser.

Reduce blue light levels before bedtime

Blue light is one of the worst things you can expose yourself to before bedtime, as it blocks your brain’s ability to recognise that it’s night time.

Not only is it tiring for your eyes to use a screen this late, but some studies have found that blue light can aggravate retinal damage. Getting blue light glasses, explicitly designed to prevent this, can be a great addition to your routine.
