On a new freezing day of Paris Fashion Week, Maison Mihara Yasuhiro awaits us on Rue de Richelieu with his latest creation: “The Big Silhouette”. Electronic music floods the half-built room; the DJ, like an aquarium, stands inside a glass box that occupies the center of the room. Yasuhiro is about to take us back to his nights of the old days.
In the chaotic world of night, the longed-for arrival of light in an era that has gone astray. Mihara Yasuhiro has little hope for the times. Keeping up with the rapid changes of time is almost impossible, “I’m just stumbling,” the designer reflects. Each piece is a reflection of that sense of nebulousness in his vision and pace.
From denim jackets to hand-knit cardigans, each garment in the “Big Silhouette” collection embraces exaggerated proportions, as if defying the laws of physics. Sleeves extend toward the floor as if bending under the weight of the fabric. Open under the arms, each garment speaks to the eternal youth of adulthood. Mihara remembers receiving clothes from his older brother, and how strange it is that as a child he was dressed in adult clothes. Like the metaphor of Peter Pan, in which Youth is eternal.
The chaotic palette of the night is reflected in shiny synthetic leathers and dazzling fabrics, evoking the nocturnal world that inspired the collection. The collaboration with “ISAMU KATAYAMA BACKLASH” highlights real leather goods, while the launch of “KEITH” sneakers with ’80s-inspired soles adds an edgy retro touch. Maison Mihara Yasuhiro continues for yet another season to live up to expectations.
