Focus Features’ Lost in Translation won Best Original Screenplay at the 76th Academy Awards and was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. After the film’s release, nothing was ever the same again. An entire generation changed their aesthetic around this film as the romance between the leads played by Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson unravelled against the backdrop of Tokyo’s iconic Park Hyatt hotel.
21 years later, Lost in Translation still tops the list of Sofia Coppola’s best films and its soundtrack – featuring artists such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and Roxy Music, among others – remains a staple of contemporary culture. In 2024, Brain Dead celebrates this timeless icon with two special T-shirts, a tote bag and a screening at Brain Dead Studios Fairfax on 20 January.
The collection will be available on 19 January at wearebraindead.com, Brain Dead Studios Fairfax and all Brain Dead locations.
