A mission that goes far beyond the conventional boundaries of fashion to educate, spark new dialogues and inspire new debates on sustainability.
After presenting the ‘What We Carry’ series with National Geographic in March 2023, Prada is once again turning to the scientific and educational organisation to present its latest Re-Nylon collection. On this occasion, three episodes are proposed which delve into the why behind this initiative: the dangers faced by some of the world’s most delicate ocean and aquatic ecosystems and what we can do as a society to make a positive impact.
The first is set in the extraordinarily fertile Indo-Pacific region and islands of the Indian Ocean, examining the devastating loss of coral reefs and the measures taken by local communities to combat their potential detrimental effect.
The second part focuses on the Arctic to highlight the issue of ocean warming and raises the debate on the impact of human life on the environment in which we live. It also explores the ancient knowledge gained from indigenous communities.
Finally, the third episode explores the Mediterranean‘s oceanic ecosystem and documents how human activity has led to the emergence of invasive species with devastating effects on its fishing communities.
All the pieces have been directed by National Geographic’s team of photographers and explorers, and highlight the different conditions facing the world’s oceans, providing exemplary ocean education and emphasising the importance of community awareness in tackling and stopping the damage caused.
1% of the proceeds from the Prada Re-Nylon collection will go to SEA BEYOND, the educational programme launched in 2019 by the Prada Group and UNESCO‘s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).
