A week ago the teaser of ‘Cuckoo’, a horror film directed by Tilman Singer, was released. We met the director in his first feature film titled ‘Luz’ 6 years ago at the Sitges Festival. Now comes his second work entitled ‘Cuckoo’, starring Hunter Schafer alongside Dan Stevens, Jessica Henwick, Marton Csokas, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey and the Catalan Greta Fernández. Although Greta’s role is rather small, her character is quite important in the development of the story. In fact, although the film is a horror film, in ‘Cuckoo’ we are going to discover a more comic side of the actress on screen, as in general, her previous roles have been more in the dramatic genre.
To give you some context, Hunter Schafer plays Gretchen, a 17-year-old who reluctantly leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved to a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Upon arrival at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Alma, Gretchen’s mute half-sister. Something doesn’t seem right in this quiet holiday paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.
Cuckoo will have its world premiere at the Berlinale later this month, before landing at the SXSW festival in Austin in March. It will be in cinemas from 3 May.
