Fashion merges with the stories of the black diaspora in Emory‘s proposal for the spring-summer 2024 season. The designer thus pays a new historical tribute to all the experiences of his African community, as he has been doing since his beginnings in fashion.
Denim Tears unveiled on his Instagram profile this latest collection, which features a multitude of prints, silhouettes and accessories that glimpse eclecticism in the form of graphic tees, button-down pants and other pieces that dance between streetwear and contemporary tailoring.
One of the most prominent motifs in the sartorial menu are still lifes and fruit prints as graphics that dress much of the collection for SS24. A pattern that is repeated in both accessories and garments such as a polo shirt, a hand-painted plaid jacket, a green and white knit cap and a leather jacket.
This motif seems a nod to the symbolic meaning of the fruit: the watermelon often represented black self-sufficiency, until that concept was distorted in the Jim Crow era. This historical ode has just been elevated with a collaboration with COMME des GARÇONS in the form of a watermelon print zippered leather bag.
