Judeline, barely twenty-one years old, has conquered us with songs like ‘Canijo’, ‘ZAHARA’ or ‘2+1’. Her first EP, ‘de la luz’ was a revelation for her mastery of the folklore – not only musical but also lyrical – of her native Cadiz and her adaptation of it to the codes of her generation. Alternative pop loaded to the brim with meaning, with the essence of flamenco, party electronica, ambient or R&B. Judeline is, in short, an artist who drinks from tradition to be rabidly contemporary.
Now she presents ‘mangata’, her new song and the first preview of her long-awaited debut album. Judeline has condensed the best of her repertoire in ‘mangata’ to make it grow even more. Accompanied by her usual collaborators, Mayo and Tuiste; but also by Drummie (from the Russian collective IDK) and Rob Bisel, producer of other stars such as SZA or TateMcRae, the ten-handed production of ‘mangata’ is a prodigy that fuses Venezuelan folklore with house and Judeline’s usual dreamlike universe.
mangata’, which means path of moonlight reflected in the water, is the first preview of the new world Judeline has been working on all this time. It talks about the feelings and intuition one feels in relationships when something is about to happen to her, a little tale that will make more sense with the rest of the story. ‘mangata’ has influences of electronic and traditional chants that combine a psychedelic and spiritual feeling.
The music video for ‘mangata’, filmed in her native Cadiz by NoNo&Rodrigo and produced by Blur and Partizan, presents the artist reflecting an imaginary where raves, hedonism, love, spirituality and religion mix in equal parts.
Judeline will open J Balvin’s concerts on his European tour.
