We often want to throw it all away. We could do with a breather. Some calm. A doctor! Somebody call the fire brigade! We’re all kittens on top of a tree, not knowing what to do to get back to dry land.
Ciutat are both the cat and the doctor, which is why the songs on their new album work so well. To cure our wounds, it’s good to have their company. Ciutat and friendship, a pot of tea and an infusion, a chanting refrain without excess testosterone. It’s not so much to ask, or maybe it is, and that’s what makes Manzanilla -the last advance before the album- so exceptional.
Ciutat have teamed up with Barcelona artist Bernarda to deliver one of their best songs to date, a haven of calm with the aroma of classic Brazilian bittersweet. Fresh and exciting, the song is 3 minutes and 43 seconds long, growing at a medicinal pace with hand claps, backing vocals and even a playful clarinet. Another proof that Ciutat is not just any group, but a box of surprises in a state of grace.
The album will be previewed at the BAM festival accompanied by a big band, with two dozen musicians on stage in a unique night that will culminate the preview of one of the most eagerly awaited albums of the Barcelona underground.
