Casablanca SS25: a celebration of Los Angeles subcultures

Casablanca rolled out four Lowrider cars at Pavillon Cambon. More than just cars, it was a clear message of what Charaf Tajer had come to do this season: celebrate the Chicano Lowriders of Los Angeles.

In this community, the designer himself discovered many parallels to his own Moroccan-French working-class upbringing. A hair net adorned with crystals, satin work shirts, Pachucho-style suits, and roses that gave in necklaces and earrings: the influence of Chicano style from Baja California marked the entire collection, but this was only the starting point.

But there were more Los Angeles cultures to celebrate. There were motifs on star pieces in the collection that were inspired by the psychedelic style of artists like Rick Griffin. In other pieces, there was a nod to the Venice Beach surf and skate scene. Crochet, embroidery, skateboards and surfboards, sinuous metallic fabrics in the purest Hollywood style…. a myriad of iconographies that represent the soul of LA: A crossroads of cultures, a melting pot and incubator of movements that have fascinated the world since the early twentieth century.

In the front row, Bella Thorne, Clara Berry, Uglyworldwide,Willy Cartier, Ayra Starr, Tokischa and others in attendance witnessed how Charaf Tajer managed to bring the spirit of Los Angeles to Paris, on his fourth day of Fashion Week. Casablanca’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection is a tribute to a fun and ever-changing Los Angeles, a city beloved by Tajer that took on new life on European soil.
