‘SELF WAR VETERANS’ is the name of ODDLIQUOR’s new EP, which includes a total of 4 songs and which today unveils a new single along with the release: “AJOLÍ”. Thus, Marcos Terrones, undoubtedly one of the most versatile contemporary singer-songwriters on the Spanish scene, closes and unveils in its entirety one of his most personal works, which has been a journey in transition since he released ‘BLINDAO’, telling a love story in the first person.
Throughout the process in which Marcos has been unveiling the advance singles of this EP, he has also been showing not only in his lyrics, but also on a visual and aesthetic level, together with the teams of Phoski Films and Un Conjuro, the story of a military veteran burdened with guilt in constant struggle with his past, with references ranging from the new metal of the 2000s to the Andalusian imaginary or the Spanish culture and tradition. For Marcos himself, ‘SELF WAR VETERANS’ was born between the La Latina neighbourhood in Madrid, El Rocío in Andalusia and the streets of New York.
AJOLÍ’ is the last track on the EP. Not only because of the order in which it has been released, but also because it serves as a summary of the story that Marcos has been telling in the course of creating this EP. ‘Love is something you can’t control and with this song I’m praising what a relationship looks like when you have a very strong, pure attitude and believe only in what’s happening in the moment without looking beyond that. It is a much more dancehall track mixed with influences that we have been talking about in previous releases such as flamenco, and finally the inclusion once again of the gospel choir that enhances the discourse and gives wings to the chorus, which is the most powerful’.
