The Tubogas technique, named after the pipes used to transport pressurised gas in the 1920s, was introduced into the world of jewellery design in the 1940s, just as Art Deco was dominating the scene. At that time, Bvlgari’s master jewellers began experimenting with this innovative technique. This technique not only contributed to the Maison’s visual language, but also reflected its constant quest for innovation and creativity in the art of jewellery.
The Bvlgari Tubogas collection is a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship that has characterised the Maison throughout its history. Each piece is created by meticulously winding two strips of gold around a central core, a process that allows the metal to intertwine without the need for soldering. The result is a gold that not only presents itself as supple and elegant, but also possesses exceptional durability, designed to stand the test of time.
The Tubogas technique was first used in the creation of the iconic Serpenti Tubogas jewellery watch in 1948, which quickly became a symbol of the Maison. As the 1970s progressed, Bvlgari continued to incorporate this technique into other iconic collections, becoming a highly coveted design by the most influential figures of the time. Today, this unique technique remains central to the construction of many of the Maison’s jewels.
Returning to its roots, Bvlgari presents the new Tubogas collection in 18K yellow gold, which pays homage to its rich heritage. The collection encompasses a variety of pieces and designs that capture the brand’s DNA. The jewellery includes three versions of bracelets, complemented by minimalist earrings in yellow gold, trigold and pavé. These designs are perfectly matched with matching necklaces, creating a visual harmony that highlights the timeless elegance of the collection.
Among the most coveted jewels in the new line is the Tubogas Parentesi, a design that pays homage to the bold aesthetic of the 1970s. Inspired by Roman pavements, this piece reflects Bvlgari’s rich Italian heritage and commitment to exceptional craftsmanship. The complete range also features three new necklace designs in a never-before-used triangular shape. Each piece is an exploration of the form and function that has defined the Maison’s heritage.
In addition, in a nod to the rich mythology surrounding the Maison, Bvlgari expands its Serpenti range with the introduction of two sets of jewellery in yellow gold. These exquisite creations include a necklace and ring set, as well as a unique bracelet and necklace, each handcrafted with the same attention to detail that characterises Tubogas. The extraordinary design stands out where the snake’s head can be opened and closed, allowing it to adapt to the wearer’s desires.
