Sun-kissed blondes, ashes and vanilla but also caramels, hazelnuts, honey, lots of copper and between the highlights, lots of melting and curls. These are, broadly speaking, some of the colour trends for winter 2024-25, which is characterised by much lighter, warmer and brighter tones in contrast to the time of year. In terms of cuts, textured cuts with lots of layers, classics like the short bob, old money, sharp and butterfly, along with grunge fringes and, once again, baby bangs will be all the rage.
Two big bets in colouring for this winter, which will begin in a few weeks, have their own names: Golden Brunette highlights and Strawberry Blonde fusion, both in line with the search for sunshine and luminosity in the cold days that will arrive. The coppery but softer tones will also have their place, along with the melting or melting highlights that transition from a dark tone to a lighter one along the hair: ‘What we do is a subtle blurring and what is achieved is a barely perceptible gradient and ideal for natural bases and for women who don’t want a very radical change. As we are not looking for very strong tones, it is better to do them with a brush’ – says Paul Tudor, director of the David Künzle Fuencarral salon.
Vanilla highlights will be seen in blonde hair under chai and toast, illuminating both ends and contour areas: ‘Sand, vanilla or honey tones are on trend this season, and also copper tones, but closer to an orange such as strawberry blonde than the red wine red that is so fashionable too, although in hairdressing the tones will be less intense and more soft, other examples would be caramel peach, ginger beer something softer and even the creamiest copper’ – clarifies Tudor.
Rocío Lucas, head of hairdressing at Madrid salon Twenty NLB next to El Retiro Park, highlights among the fringes we’ll be seeing the grunge fringe popularised by Camila Cabello, Dakota Johnson or Úrsula Corberó, like the almighty Birkin and the recurring baby bangs: ‘As a micro fringe we only recommend it for faces that are not oval or round or with too much forehead, nor with very curly hair. It certainly gives a very youthful look if it is also worn with a high ponytail’.
The cuts for this winter
The short bob, the old money (layered bob with volume) and butterfly layers on different scales are among the most prominent trends in cuts for this coming winter, without leaving out the sharp or the lob: ‘The lob is an ideal cut for women with an oval face, longer than the classic bob, always at collarbone height or even longer. It’s very flattering and versatile, leaving the hair practically in one piece’ – says Paul Tudor (David Künzle Fuencarral).
We will also continue to see cool haircuts like the shag or the mullet, but the trend seems to be for a more shaggy hairstyle, which is why the chop is one of the most notable: ‘We’re talking about long hair below the shoulders, very shaggy and parted along the contours of the face. It looks great straight, but also wavy’, says David Lesur, training director of the David Künzle salons. Rocío Lucas from the Twenty NLB Retiro salon adds the cowgirl cut among the trendiest styles, ideal with a curtain fringe: ‘Textured pixies, the curly shag, the blunt chop or the clavicut are also in. Layers, especially asymmetrical layers and the volume effect are in’.
