Carina Lau protagoniza la campaña de Año Nuevo Lunar de self-portrait

Captured by renowned photographer Feng Li 冯立, the new self-portrait campaign pays homage to family traditions and memories of generations shaped by Hong Kong television stories. Joining Carina Lau 刘嘉玲 are Anna Ueyama 上山诗纳, her close friend; Bowie Wu Fung 胡枫, legendary actor whose 1953 debut Men’s Hearts catapulted him to fame; and William Chang 张叔平, the famed art director and producer behind Wong Kar Wai’s iconic films.

The campaign revolves around the collective memories of an era when TV dramas not only entertained, but connected families and brought imagination to life. Founder and creative director of self-portrait, Han Chong, shared his inspiration for the campaign, “Lunar New Year is a time to honor the traditions that marked my childhood, as we embrace the future with positivity, hope and joy. This campaign celebrates the golden age of television and pays tribute to how those stories not only sparked imaginations, but also brought families and communities together.” These stories, deeply rooted in everyday life, are fondly evoked in the expression “TV sauce mixed with rice” (电视汁捞饭), symbolizing an entire era.

The campaign narrative unfolds in two cinematic acts titled “Behind the Silver Screen.” In the first, the setting is the famous Yat Lok restaurant in Central, where Carina Lau, William Chang and Bowie Wu, in the role of a waiter, gather for a banquet. The second act takes place at the luxurious Island Shangri-La hotel, where Carina Lau and Anna Ueyama embody characters whose stories blur the lines between their on-screen and off-screen lives. This act explores how life and art intertwine in Hong Kong’s vibrant urban settings, highlighting the harmony between modernity and tradition.

self-portrait has already unveiled, alongside the campaign, the Lunar New Year capsule collection, available from today in physical stores and online via self-portrait.com. In the weeks leading up to Lunar New Year, more images from the campaign will be released, offering a more intimate glimpse into this celebration of Hong Kong’s golden era of film and television.

So is the first Residency collection, from self-portrait.
