The fashion industry is always on the move, but few appointments have generated as much buzz as this one.
The change comes after the departure of Virginie Viard, who held the creative direction of the French Maison for five years, leaving a legacy that balanced innovation and respect for the maison’s classic codes. The designer, a protégée and close collaborator of the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, took over in 2019 after the designer’s death.
Now it is the turn of Matthieu Blazy, who was leaving his post at the helm of Bottega Veneta, and with whom Chanel will take on a new hue. Known for his contemporary sensibility and mastery of materials, the Belgian designer promises to inject freshness and dynamism into the house.
In an official statement, Alain Wertheimer and Leena Nair, both senior Chanel executives, described Blazy as ‘one of the most talented designers of his generation’. His mission is clear: revitalize the brand without losing its essence, consolidating its status as the absolute leader in global luxury.
