filip custic unveils new audiovisual piece in the heart of London

filip custic transcends the visual, transforming his works into provocative experiences that generate impact and reflection in those who view them. Known for turning the human body into an artistic medium, custic explores the intersection between art, technology and perception of reality. His sculptures decorate and transform the body, allowing art to be directly occupied and experienced, reaffirming his vision of the body as the central focus of his artistic practice.

The video art work performance in london captures custic’s intervention in the streets of central London, where he explores the concept of filip playing with glass, a sculpture that becomes the centrepiece of the performance. With this work, filip custic delves into the notion of being a broken toy, a metaphor for the vulnerability inherent in the human experience. ‘We all harbour fissures, fragments that we try to hide, but I advocate the total expression of the self, embracing both personal achievements and fractures,’ explains custic.

The work examines how ideas mutate in the process of construction: an initial concept can be transformed into something unexpected without losing its inner coherence. The presence of glass, a recurring material in custic’s visual language, reinforces this duality between fragility and beauty, purity and aesthetic rigour. Here, the glass is introduced into the artist’s body in an almost surgical manner, without blood, in a process of total precision. Initially conceived as a wearable, a skirt that inhabits the body, the piece emancipates itself by being extracted and presented as a sculpture, acquiring the dimension of a meta-chandelier: an object suspended between functionality, ornamentation and the conceptualisation of the body as a sculptural space.

‘This piece is an exploration of transformation, both personal and artistic. I am interested in how our fractures shape us, how objects and bodies evolve in a constant dialogue. By detaching it from my body, the sculpture becomes autonomous, existing in a space between object and identity,’ says custic.

performance in london is part of a series of performances in major cities such as Paris, Venice and Madrid. filip custic selects iconic locations to connect with the public through familiar environments, while introducing his work as a disruptive element. These interventions seek to take people out of their routine, integrating them into the artistic experience, inviting them to question their reality and engage in a dialogue about the limits of art and perception.

This video art piece and performance, part of the series filp initiated in Paris, has been developed during a week of artistic exploration as Artist in Residence at The Mandrake in Fitzrovia, London. ‘We are delighted to collaborate with filip, providing the resources and platform to facilitate this innovative project and further our shared commitment to radical and experimental expression,’ explains Maguelone Marcenac, Director of the Artist in Residence Programme. The project has also been supported by W1 Curates and SOLO.

The Museo Cerralbo and PHotoESPAÑA present ‘pq hacemos lo q hacemos?’, a retrospective exhibition of the multidisciplinary artist filip custic.
