Following his departure from Miu Miu, the jewel of the Prada conglomerate, in January, Vitale will take the reins of the Versace universe from April, promising to infuse a bold, contemporary vision into the brand’s legacy. Donatella Versace, the creative force that has guided the maison for three decades, will remain as ‘chief ambassador’, consolidating the eternal link with her brother Gianni’s legacy, and focusing her energy on global impact initiatives through the Versace Foundation, reaffirming her role as a cultural and philanthropic reference.
This change of leadership comes at a key moment for Versace, as rumours intensify about a possible acquisition of the brand by Prada. The conglomerate is reportedly in talks to acquire Capri Holdings, owner of Versace, for around 1.5 billion dollars. Should this transaction materialise, Vitale could re-enter under Prada’s wing, which would open up new horizons for the international fashion industry. Echoes of this possible change of ownership are echoing loudly, fuelling speculation about how this corporate redefinition could reshape the destiny of one of the most iconic houses of contemporary luxury.
‘I am truly honoured to join Versace as Creative Director and to be part of this special and powerful luxury fashion House created by Gianni and Donatella. The House of Versace has a unique legacy that spans decades and has shaped the history of fashion. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Donatella for her trust in me and for her tireless dedication to the extraordinary brand that Versace is today. It is a privilege to contribute to Versace’s future growth and global impact through my vision, experience and dedication,’ explains Dario Vitale.
