Kendall Jenner may have borrowed the latest Cartier watch she has been wearing from her brother-in-law Timothée Chalamet, an ambassador for the brand. The actor, who is Kylie Jenner‘s partner, has walked the red carpets with many models from the French house, including a diamond-set Crash watch that is one of the most iconic and mysterious pieces from the Cartier jeweller.

Of course, Kendall doesn’t need to ask because she shines in her own light and can buy whatever she wants, of course. In one of her recent Instagram stories, the model appears wearing a white gold Crash. It was during the Indian Wells tennis tournament in California. Yes, the one where her sister Kylie washed her boyfriend’s belly like a washing machine.

Kendall‘s Crash, not Crush (although it may also have been a crush), had a salmon-coloured dial – a rarity, so we think of it as a collector’s item – and blue Roman numerals. In fact, a similar one was recently sold in Geneva, Switzerland, at auction by the Phillips bidding company for 300,000 Swiss francs (310,600 euros at current exchange rates). Elton John also had a 400-unit limited edition gold Crash that he sold at auction in early 2024.

One of the most fascinating watches to emerge in the 20th century, the Crash is captivating with its unique asymmetrical design and flowing forms, and its production is very limited. It is said to have been made by Cartier‘s craftsmen after a colleague’s watch was disfigured in a car accident. What is certain is that it evokes the soft watches painted by Salvador Dalí in “The Persistence of Memory” (1931).

Cartier presented it in London in 1967, and since then there have been diamond-set and skeletonised versions, among others. In 2019, the brand launched reference 4127, inspired by that original model. Since then, collectors (and Kendall Jenner) have been drooling over it.
