Yale University to study Bad Bunny

Under the subject “Bad Bunny: Musical Aesthetics and Politics”.

The worldwide phenomenon caused by Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio has become the subject of study by one of the most prestigious universities in the world: Yale University. Thus, the new subject taught by Albert Laguna, associate professor of American Studies and Ethnicity, Race and Migration, will delve into the multiple levels of meaning that inhabit his lyrics, rhythms and aesthetics.

But it’s not just about beats and catchy verses. The course is intended as an in-depth analysis of the Puerto Rican diaspora, identity politics and colonial tensions that affect Bad Bunny and reggaeton as a musical genre. According to the professor, the project aims to highlight how urban music can be a powerful tool for cultural interpretation.

This initiative follows a growing trend of influential universities opening their doors to some of the key figures of contemporary pop culture such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Harry Styles.
