Through a collection based on pride and belonging to the community.
Inspired by the culture of South Los Angeles, the SS25 collection is a visual manifesto of heritage, identity and style, where the colours of the Mexican flag take on special importance and symbols such as the Aztec eagle or the Old English typeface with the word “Chicano” appear in key places. In this way, Chavarria brings to the table an urgent conversation about roots, visibility and representation.
“The place of adidas in Chicano culture is a bit of an untold story. I love sharing this iconic brand in a way that reflects how I wore it growing up and how we wear it now. Working with my close friends and extended family on this project in Los Angeles was a powerful and personal experience. It allowed me to capture the beauty of our brown brothers and sisters in the context in which many of us live,” says the acclaimed designer.
Thus, a series of key pieces emerged where oversized silhouettes stand out in the form of sweatshirts with tricolour panels; black sports outfits adorned with the three stripes and the clover reinterpreted in colours such as red or floral embroidery; and the Jabbar basketball shoe converted into Low and Dress versions.
The SS25 collection will be divided into two releases: the first will arrive on May 8th in selected adidas shops, the CONFIRMED app and both brands’ websites; while the second drop is scheduled for July 10th.
