The Costa del Sol is once again hitting the table – and what a table it is. The Balneario de los Baños del Carmen, that mythical spot where history merges with the sea and the sunset is art, has been chosen as Tapas Best Chiringuito 2025. The event, organised by Tapas Magazine and SpainMedia, landed last Monday 7th July directly in this iconic spot in Malaga, which has become the new kilometre zero of the national gastronomic lifestyle.
The event, which brought together key figures from the city’s social, cultural and foodie scene, had the backing of Málaga City Council, which is increasingly focused on positioning the city as a gastro benchmark in southern Europe. Also present were Viña Pomal, as a partner of flavour with designation of origin, and Iryo, which continues to connect the most restless palates with experiences that are (very) worth the trip.
Journalist Celia Bermejo was the master of ceremonies for a night with a Mediterranean flavour and the aroma of embers. The award was presented by Ignacio Quintana, CEO of Tapas, who highlighted the link between gastronomy, territory and lifestyle. Gerardo Lumbreras, CEO of the Spa, collected the award visibly moved and dedicated a few words to the entire team that makes it possible for this century-old enclave to continue to be synonymous with enjoyment.
Founded in 1918 and located in front of the waters of the Mediterranean, Los Baños del Carmen is not just a beach bar, it is an emotional and architectural symbol that has managed to evolve without losing its identity. Its cuisine – which articulates the traditional and the contemporary – offers an experience in which the espeto de sardinas coexists harmoniously with creative proposals, and where fried fish is presented not as a custom, but as an elevated rite.
This recognition is not merely an award; it is a consecration. A validation that places with history can and must dialogue with the present. In the words of the organisers, Tapas Best Chiringuito seeks to distinguish those places that represent authenticity, well understood hedonism and that Mediterranean culture where life simply tastes better.
