Everything confirmed so far for “The Devil Wears Prada 2”

After years of rumours, denials and “it wouldn’t make sense to make a sequel”, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is now a reality. In July 2025, Disney and 20th Century Studios confirmed that production officially began on 30 June, with a tentative release date of 1 May 2026.

Anne Hathaway returns as Andy. Also returning are Meryl Streep (Miranda Priestly), Emily Blunt (Emily), Stanley Tucci (Nigel) and Tracie Thoms (Lily). Joining the cast are Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak and Pauline Chalamet. Moreover, Adrian Grenier, who played Andy’s boyfriend Nate in the original film, is apparently not returning.

There is no official synopsis, but it is known that Emily is no longer working as Miranda’s assistant. She is now at a high-end advertising agency, while Miranda tries to keep Runway Magazine alive in the midst of the print crisis. Andy’s role remains undefined, and although the story is rumoured to be loosely inspired by the literary sequel, Revenge Wears Prada, there is no confirmation.

As for the costumes, there is no sign of Patricia Field, who was responsible for the original film’s looks. She is currently busy with other projects, and there is no indication that she will return for the sequel.

The script is being written by Aline Brosh McKenna, writer of the first film, which ensures a certain continuity in tone and narrative. What is not clear is whether the final title will be The Devil Wears Prada 2 or if they will opt for another name.

For now, what we have is an unexpected return, a fashion industry in transition and many doubts as to whether this sequel will live up to the original.
