In a summer marked by extreme temperatures, optimising every aesthetic and functional choice becomes imperative. Beyond the classic resources to mitigate the heat – constant hydration, light fabrics or the indispensable fan – a change of cut can be an effective and refreshing aesthetic strategy. Paul Tudor, artistic director at the David Künzle Fuencarral salon, selects three different cuts that, as well as offering lightness and comfort, add character and distinction. Here are the keys to the most relevant cuts for this season.
Pixie: The perfect synthesis of structure and freedom
The pixie cut, a reinterpretation of the classic garçon, has established itself as one of the most versatile and contemporary alternatives for those who want to lighten their hair without losing identity or aesthetic strength. It adapts elegantly to multiple facial shapes – particularly flattering on rounded faces with volume at the back or on long-necked silhouettes and petite figures – and allows for styling variations ranging from a high toupee to boyish versions with longer lines.
Tudor warns that maintenance requires precision: a professional touch-up every four to six weeks is essential to preserve its shape and harmony. For styling, he recommends body jellies for fine hair and styling milks with wax or hairspray for denser textures.
In terms of styling, the pixie offers a high degree of malleability: it can be styled with leave-in creams, structuring gels and even wet treatments to enhance its graphic effect. The incorporation of asymmetrical or boldly shaped fringes also adds an irreverent and sophisticated air that harmonises perfectly with urban avant-garde aesthetics.
Airy Bob: Technical lightness with an architectural vocation
The airy bob is a refined, technical answer to the need for volume in fine hair. Conceived from extremely thin layers – virtually invisible to the naked eye – this cut combines pinpoint precision and organic movement. The key lies in the balanced mix of short and long strands, which gives the hair a denser appearance without detracting from its lightness.
‘We finish the cut by working with a large-diameter round brush, combing in the opposite direction of hair growth for an immediate voluminous effect,’ explains Tudor. It is especially suitable for delicate faces and subtle bone structures, and is particularly enhanced on blonde or fair hair, where the play of light reveals the sophistication of its internal architecture.
This cut is not just an aesthetic solution: it is a technical statement that balances the lightness of summer with the rigour of a professional, perfectly executed finish.
3. Blunt Cut: Geometric precision with a timeless approach
For those seeking a polished, structured style with a classic vocation, the blunt cut – an updated version of the traditional carré – represents the ultimate expression of restrained elegance. Defined by its straight outline and subtly frayed ends, this cut harmonises with a wide variety of faces and hair textures: from oval to elongated or square, whether on straight, wavy or curly hair.
‘It is especially beneficial on fine, straight hair, where it adds body and volume without the need for layering,’ says Tudor. It also allows for multiple adaptations: with straight fringes, side lengths, a sharp or unstructured parting, and lengths that can vary from chin to shoulder length, depending on the proportions of the face.
The blunt is essentially a high-precision aesthetic solution that projects a polished, feminine image while framing the face with refined geometry and subtly emphasising the neckline.
