A major fire has severely damaged the main stage of Tomorrowland 2025, just days before the start of its first weekend. According to Belgian public broadcaster VRT, the fire almost completely destroyed the structure. At the time of the fire there were no attendees at the venue, but around 1,000 people working on the set-up were evacuated. The cause is still under investigation.
Despite the damage, the organisers have confirmed that the festival will go ahead as planned. DreamVille will open on Thursday 17 July and Global Journey activities in Brussels and Antwerp will not be affected.
In the statement, the organisers say that no injuries have been reported and that they are working to find solutions for the three days of the festival.
Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen said the team is ‘devastated’ after seeing years of hard work and dedication lost in a matter of minutes. Still, they remain committed to the public: “Tomorrow we are expecting 38,000 festival-goers at DreamVille. We’re going to make it a great festival. It won’t have a main stage. Hopefully we can do more, but I can’t say too much about it yet”.
Tomorrowland is being held in the Belgian town of Boom. A local resident told CNN that the fire was preceded by a loud noise, resembling fireworks, and a large cloud of smoke. “It’s one of the biggest events of the year. Our city is very small, so hosting people from all over the world is crazy and a lot of fun. It’s such a big event that everyone in Boom gets a little bit scared for a few seconds.“
Tomorrowland, still going ahead after the fire, will run over two weekends, 18-20 and 25-27 July.
