Prada Linea Rossa and Red Bull rewrite the history of skysurfing

Together with Sean MacCormac, they have achieved one of those feats that explore the limits of extreme sports.

A pioneer of skysurfing and two-time X Games medallist, the American athlete became the first person to glide over the iconic cables of San Francisco‘s Bay Bridge after launching himself from a helicopter at a height of 1,676 metres. The operation took months of preparation, exhaustive training and, above all, the development of state-of-the-art technical equipment. The jump culminated with MacCormac gliding along the steel cables for several seconds before spiralling down and landing on a floating platform beneath the structure.

The board used was designed exclusively in collaboration with the Luna Rossa team—a leader in innovation within the America’s Cup—whose honeycomb core and carbon fibre layers provided responsiveness and control in the air, while the lightweight high-density polyethylene base resisted impact and abrasion from the metal.

“This project is a dream come true,” says Mac Cormac. “In my profession, I am fortunate to be able to contemplate some of the world’s most impressive architectural works from different perspectives, and I have often found myself daydreaming about what might be possible. Being able to glide along the cables of the iconic Bay Bridge makes this vision a reality. It’s incredible to be part of the joint effort of the entire team to make this project a reality, from the collaboration with Prada Linea Rossa and the design of the board with the Luna Rossa team to the countless hours of training, repetition and preparation that have prepared us for this moment.”
