Sydney Sweeney packs a punch in the Christy trailer

Sydney Sweeney steps into the shoes of Christy Martin in Christy, the new film directed by David Michôd that has just unveiled its official trailer. The actress, transformed into a whirlwind of muscle and charisma, embodies the figure who broke barriers in the ring during the nineties.

The story follows the boxer from her early days, with the iconic pink entrance that became her trademark, to her meteoric rise under the guidance of Don King (played by Chad L. Coleman). Also by her side is Jim Martin (Ben Foster), her trainer and future husband, with whom she experienced a relationship marked by the age gap and, above all, abuse.

Beyond titles and victories, the film delves into the darker side of the champion: domestic violence, imposed silence, and the conflict of a repressed sexuality. The trailer shows the pendulum between sporting glory and personal collapse, with Christy caught between returning to West Virginia or continuing to fight for her place in boxing history.

Based on true events, the film promises to be a portrait of resilience, courage, and survival. To portray the Hall of Famer, Sweeney underwent both a physical and mental transformation. Including months of training, added muscle, and nearly 14 kilos gained to fully embody Martin.

Christy, starring Sydney Sweeney, premieres in cinemas on 7 November.
